Chart Builder
To create an ad-hoc weapons chart:
- Select a Country from the drop down.
- Select a TOE from the drop down. The (All Stands) option lists all the available stands for the selected country except for Lend Lease (unless the selected country was the main user of that stand e.g. the Staghound is listed under the Commonwealth).
- A formation is generally displayed with 4 levels of sub-formation:
- Level1 - Regiment (or brigade) or equivalent
- Level2 - Battalion or equivalent (see notes in CD:TOB rules about British naming conventions)
- Level3 - Company or equivalent
- Level4 - Platoon or equivalent
The following instructions will use the main type above for each level of organisation (i.e. regiment, battalion, company and platoon). Generally, when a formation is first displayed only the regiment level sub-formations are visible. To expand a regiment click on its name (to collapse it again click on its name a second time).
- You can select all the platoons in a battalion by clicking the ticked tickbox image by its name and deselect them by ticking the unticked tickbox image. You can select individual platoons using the tickbox next to each one. You can also tick and untick all the platoons in the formation using the hyperlinks above the formation.
- Once you have made your selection click the "Save Selection" button at the bottom of the screen. You MUST do this before selecting another country or formation or viewing the weapons chart or your selection will be lost.
- You can select platoons from any formation from any country to be in your battlegroup. This allows you to create data charts for multi-country battlegroups (e.g. German and Italian in the desert), or forces using Lend Lease equipment (e.g. the Commonwealth and USSR), or forces using captured equipment (e.g. the Germans or everyone in the desert).
- Once you have selected all your platoons click the "Chart" tab to see the stats. You will see that each ammunition type for each stand has a ticked tickbox. If you do not wish for an ammunition type to be shown untick the relevant tickbox. Click the Save button at the bottom of the page to save your deselections. This feature will most often be used to remove special ammunition types such as HV, CN and HC (e.g. the germans had very few, if any, HV rounds in 1944/45) but can also be used in special scenarios where otherwise common rounds were not available. Note, this feature only works with the PDF version of the charts.
- You can then click the "Open Print Friendly Version", "Generate PDF", or "Generate PDF with GRC" hyperlinks which open a new browser window with the data chart. The first creates the chart as an HTML document. The second as a PDF. The third generates a PDF with Bill Owen's "General Reference Chart" appended to the end. It is recommended that you use the PDF options as you will have much more control over how it prints. The HTML option is there for the few people who do not have Adobe Acrobat installed.
- To create another data chart, return to the TO&E tab and click the "Clear All" button at the bottom and start selecting platoons again.
Optional Functionality
Battlegroup Name
You can give your selection a name using the "BattleGroup Name" textbox. This will be printed at the top of the data chart.
Max Year
If you are creating charts for an early or mid war scenario using weapons for which advanced ammunition was developed later in the war (e.g. the M10, which was introduced in Tunisia in 1942/43, had a HV round developed for its main gun in 1944) you can set the max year drop down to the year of the scenario and the advanced ammunition will not be printed on the data chart. This is similar to the feature in step 7 above but the Max Year feature allows for the removal of several ammunition types via a generic coarse grained rule, while the feature in step 7 allows for fine grained removal of ammunition types (e.g. you may wish to give your US tank destroyers HV rounds but not your 76mm armed Shermans).
Settings Page
On the settings page you can:
- choose whether you want to print on A4 or US letter sized paper.
- choose when a TO&E has a choice of platoons whether:
- all the choices are shown in the table (in red) making it possible to select more than one optional platoon
- the choices are displayed in a drop down box allowing only one platoon to be selected
Wiki Text
The notes fields on the site use a form of Wiki text for formating. The formating rules are:
- Headings
- This are delimited by equals signs =. The number of equals signs correspond to the header type "h1, h2, h3 etc"
- Lists
- Type 4 or more minus/dash/hyphen (-) characters to create a horizontal rule.
